JAMES ROBERTS

About James

James Roberts is an artist, writer and filmmaker working with ink, film, photography and field practice. His work is rooted in the borderlands of England and Wales and shaped by close attention to wild places, seasonal change and the more-than-human world.

He has worked across many creative fields, including design, animation, art direction and writing. He holds a degree in Three-Dimensional Design and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

His paintings and illustrations are exhibited in galleries nationally, on book and magazine covers, and as part of stage and performance settings. His writing has been published in literary journals, magazines and national publications including National Geographic and The Scotsman. He has spoken about his work on BBC radio and has given talks, readings and presentations at universities, bookshops, galleries and festivals.

Across painting, writing and moving image, his practice is concerned with attention, belonging and the living presence of place. Much of the work begins outdoors: walking, watching, listening and returning to the same rivers, hills, woods and coastlines over time.

He lives in the Marches, close to the Welsh border.
